Shed fire in Boston caused by 'unextinguished barbecue embers', fire service says, offering advice
A shed fire in Boston was caused by ‘unextinguished barbecue embers’, the fire service has said.
Two crews from the town attended the incident in Ingelow Avenue on Tuesday (April 21).

Firefighters used one hose reel, one thermal imaging camera, and one short extension ladder to tackle the blaze, which was reported to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service at about 2.35pm.
Speaking generally on the subject of barbecue safety, the service offered these tips:
- Never leave a barbecue unattended
- Ensure the barbecue is on a flat site, well away from a shed, fence, trees or shrubs
- Keep children, garden games and pets well away from the cooking area
- Keep a bucket of water, sand or a garden hose nearby for emergencies
- Always avoid alcohol if you are in charge of a barbecue – it can affect your co-ordination and judgment.
- Ensure the barbecue is cool before attempting to move it and do not dispose of ashes from barbecues until they are cold.
- If a fire starts, get somewhere safe and call 999.
