UPDATE:  Cause of Skegness fire remains ‘undetermined’ but police investigation continues

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have confirmed that the cause of a fire in Skegness earlier this week remains ‘undetermined’ – but police have since issued a statement that their investigations continue.

Following an investigation by the fire service yesterday (Tuesday) into the blaze, they stated the investigators have not confidently been able to identify the cause.

The official statement reads: “Fire investigators, assisted by a Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire fire dog, completed their investigations on December 30.

"They concluded that there was not enough evidence to determine a cause, and this incident will remain as undetermined.”

Six fire crews were called to Monday’s fire that saw a family-run furniture store, Suite Dreams, destroyed and spread across two other properties. The crews worked until early evening to bring the situation under control, preventing further damage.

In a statement yesterday, the service thanked the local community for their support in the aftermath, highlighting how residents had helped by keeping clear access for emergency vehicles and checking on neighbours.

No injuries were reported, and the fire service reiterated advice for all residents to remain vigilant and report any concerns promptly.

In spite of the statement by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Lincolnshire Police have now stated they are continuing their investigations.

A statement issued this afternoon said: “Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have completed their investigation with the assistance of a fire dog and dog handler from the region.

"However, due to the damage at the site, the evidence was inconclusive and the cause remains undetermined. As such, we cannot say at this stage if the fire was started deliberately or accidentally.

“As part of our enquiries, we are keen for anyone who saw the fire in its early stages - especially prior to emergency services arriving on scene - or anyone with drone footage and photographs, to contact us.”
