Yellow weather warning remains as snow, ice and bitter cold continue across Skegness

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place for Skegness as freezing temperatures and wintry conditions continue to affect the area.

According to the Met Office, today will begin with a cold, frosty and icy start, with largely bright conditions through the morning. Blustery snow showers may move inland around the middle of the day, before becoming confined to coastal areas later. It is expected to remain dry and cold for much of the day, with sunny spells and a maximum temperature of just 1°C.

Tonight, any remaining coastal snow showers are forecast to clear early in the evening, giving way to clear skies. Temperatures are set to plunge overnight, with a hard frost, icy stretches and a minimum temperature of -9°C.

Tuesday is expected to start bright before becoming increasingly cloudy, with a mixture of rain and sleet later in the day. While slightly milder, conditions will become windier, with a maximum temperature of 4°C.

Looking ahead, the Met Office forecast for Wednesday to Friday suggests increasingly dry and sunny weather on Wednesday, followed by rain and sleet early on Thursday. Conditions are expected to turn increasingly windy, with a further risk of snow late Thursday into Friday.

With the cold snap continuing, East Lindsey District Council has reminded residents that a number of Warm Places are available across the district for those needing somewhere warm, safe and welcoming during the winter months. These include venues such as libraries, community centres and other local spaces where people can spend time free of charge.

Residents are encouraged to check the council’s website here or local listings for the nearest Warm Place and opening times.

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to take extra care due to icy conditions, particularly overnight and during the early morning, as the cold weather continues.
