The Mablethorpe site of Monks Dyke Tennyson College has officially closed its doors today (Thursday).

The school which originally started off its time as Tennyson Secondary School before it merged with the Louth site of Monks Dyke Technology College marked its 50th anniversary just last year.

It was officially opened on November 18, 1965 and named after famous Lincolnshire poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson.

The opening marked Mablethorpe’s first provision of secondary education in the area.

But the hopes of future secondary education at the site is not lost, as the provisions to bring forward a new Coastal Free School is well underway.

Lincolnshire County Council made the difficult decision to close down the site earlier this year due to falling pupil numbers and the unsustainable financial future of the site.

Children will now have to attend secondary schools in Alford, North Somercotes and Louth

Did you attend the school at any point during the 50 years it was open?
