Brigg green energy plant up and running

Work started on the site of the old British Sugar Beet factory near Scawby Brook, to the south west of Brigg, in August 2013.

Completion of the Brigg Renewable Energy Plant took less than 27 months, which is three months ahead of schedule.

It is owned by BWSC North Lincs Ltd, a joint venture between Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and Pension
Danmark.

It was constructed under a design and build contract by BWSC, which has further responsibility for the operation and maintenance under a 15‐year 
agreement.

BWSC chief executive officer Anders Hein Jensen said: “The completion of the Brigg power plant is a major step for BWSC as it exemplifies the synergies from a close collaboration between financial and industrial players in the energy 
sector.”

BWSC have thanked the local community for their cooperation and support during the construction phase of the 
project.

The plant is now fully operational and generating 40 MWh of electricity every hour, which is enough to supply 75,000 homes and save over 250,000 tons of CO2 every year.

Brigg Renewable Energy Plant is primarily straw fueled.

It will consume about 250,000 tonnes of straw per year, which is sourced from farmers in the local community.
