Attendees will also have the chance to take part in an electric car and van driving experience.

Taking place on Wednesday, July 6, the Low Carbon NK Partnership business breakfast will feature guest speakers on a variety of topics, including support available to businesses to increase their energy efficiency and how electric and hybrid vehicles can bring savings on tax, fuel and emissions.

Adrian Pick, Environment, Health and Safety Officer for the event’s host, Siemens, will give an overview on how they built their premises as a facility rated as excellent in terms of environmental impact.

Sopers BMW and Marshall Nissan of Lincoln will be on hand to provide support and information on grants and vehicle loans to businesses considering switching to plug-in cars and vans, with the chance to try the Nissan Leaf Tekna electric car, a Nissan e-nv200 electric panel van and the BMW i3 and BMW hybrid i8.

The event has been organised by sustainnk, a North Kesteven District Council service.

Coun Mrs Marion Brighton, Leader of NKDC, said: “Emissions in North Kesteven have fallen by 12 per cent since 2005.

“The Low Carbon NK Partnership celebrates the contributions made by businesses across the district and supports those who would like to do more.

“Economic success and environmental wellbeing are inextricably linked and North Kesteven District Council wants to ensure local businesses have every opportunity to achieve both.

“Having successfully reduced our own greenhouse gas emissions by more than 34 per cent by improving energy, fuel and water use across operations and services, along with purchasing carbon neutral electricity, we know it is possible.

“This has saved NKDC £157,412, created greater resilience to price increases and generated an estimated future income of £58,000 from renewable energy generation.”

More than 50 businesses have signed up to the Low Carbon NK charter and it is hoped more will follow suit at the event.

The Low Carbon NK plan monitors emissions in the district and promotes the contributions made by charter signatories to reducing green house gas emissions towards a 20 per cent by 2020 target. Latest figures from the document show that 20 per cent of the energy needed is already generated in NK.
