In a bid to support the hard work of the 65-strong Waste and Street Scene team, the 73-year-old will be pulling on his hi-vis to join crews emptying bins across the district on a date in December.

Coun Money’s aim is to raise significant sums for Lincolnshire’s St Barnabas Hospice, which is his nominated charity during his year as chairman.

Ward Member for Metheringham, home of the council’s dustcart fleet, he will undergo training before joining in a full day covering more than 10 miles shifting up to 1,200 bins.

The chairman will be on the ground with the collectors emptying wheelie bins, litter bins, collecting bulky items, repairing a broken wheelie bin and collecting fly-tipping to get the full experience.

Always hands-on, Coun Money initially trained as an apprentice joiner, worked for local construction firms and for more than 30 years was estate manager for Blankney Estates. His latest task was a self-build home at Scopwick for which he has made the doors, windows and fittings himself.

“This will be no walk in the park, but I know that any discomfort will be well worthwhile in support of such a brilliant team and such a well-deserved good cause,” he said. “St Barnabas provides a haven of comfort, care and relief.”
