The county council has only just reopened its waste tips to the public under a ‘click and tip’ scheme where people go online to book a slot to turn up with their waste.

Currently it is being limited to garden waste and wood, with more kinds of material being allowed later as safe distancing methods can be put in place.

the website crashed due to demand during the first few days of the scheme being announced but is now back up and running.

With so many households having been at home under lockdown, many have been tempted to do spring cleans of the home and garden which has led authorities warning against this unless you can safely store the waste until restrictions are lifted.

The council have also warned against allowing unlicensed waste disposal firms to take the rubbish away for you in case this is later flytipped and both they and the householder may face prosecution. Householders may also have been tempted to dump waste themselves.

This week local police officers came across a load of dumped rubbish along Asgarby Road at Burton Pedwardine.
