Julian Grenfell of Quarrington raised the matter on social media after going to a walk alongside the River Slea at Rauceby Banks, near Bristol Way.

He said he came across it earlier this week on his morning walk, commenting; “Lockdown, what Lockdown? Litter from mindless, superspreading muppets!”

He called upon Sleaford’s PCSOs to keep an eye out for these covid breahers who had obviously been gathering, sitting around and drinking.

Mr Grenfell said: “The litter is at its worst in the summer. It needs a PCSO to go down there at night-time to check, particularly with lockdown. If caught, they should be fined.”

He added: “It’s vandalism, pollution, and flouting lockdown rules all in one. Rubbish has been thrown in the river, Tesco trolleys in the river, and the wildlife is suffering.”

Heckington environmental campaigner Tim Grogg was equally frustrated at finding abandonded foil helium balloons tangled in local ditches and hedgerows, taking photos to share on social medias to warn others.

He said: “There was a recent post on Facebook in Heckington about someone looking for helium balloons for a party. Whilst they can be fun, if they escape they can be devastating for wildlife and farm animals.

“I’ve found five in the last week when out litter picking. So please be extra careful.”
