The two branches will be gathering in Louth’s Market Place this Thursday morning (June 25) from 10am.

Local spokesman Pete Richards said: “The event is organised by the Horncastle and Louth Extinction Rebellion groups, and coincides with the release date of a report by the Committee on Climate Change.

“This protest is part of a national day of action and we will deliver a letter to our MP, Victoria Atkins, demanding that the government acts now to avert the looming climate and ecological catastrophe. With the Covid crisis, we’ve seen how fast things can change if there’s a political will.

“Now they must do it for the climate, or all of society risks complete collapse, possibly within the next decade or two.

“Due to the continuing Covid 19 situation, some of our members will not be attending, and those who do take part will be socially distancing and wearing PPE.

“The message from our members will tell the government that we need positive climate action and that there is no going back to our destructive pre-Covid ways.”

In the open letter to Victoria Atkins MP, Extinction Rebellion says the Government’s actions “fall well short” of its own target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which the protesters describe as being a “woefully inadequate” target.
