New drop-off points at tips for re-usable unwanted items

It has now been made even easier to give your perfectly usable unwanted items a second life rather than throwing them away at the council tip.

Lincolnshire County Council’s Market Rasen and Lincoln recycling centres now have dedicated re-use drop-off areas, so good-quality items can be passed on quickly and safely to be donated to a new home.

The council says that choosing re-use helps save resources, cut carbon emissions and support a greener Lincolnshire by keeping items in use for longer.

You can pass on good-quality items that still have plenty of life left in them at any of the county’s Household Waste Recycling Centres, but the council explains that they have made it easier with the dedicated areas at Market Rasen and Lincoln.

All reusable items from sites across the county are then sent to the Tattershall Re-use Shop, donated to one of their charity re-use partners or sent to auction, helping items stay in use for longer.

If you are unsure whether something can be reused, just ask a member of staff or look out for the re-use drop signage during your visit.

The council says by choosing re-use, you are reducing the need for new products to be made, saving valuable resources and cutting carbon emissions.

They state: “If you are bringing along items such as bikes, furniture, mirrors, children’s toys, pictures or other reusable goods, please speak to a member of site staff. They’ll be happy to help you place them into our re-use scheme rather than disposing of them.

“We are looking at options for other sites but there are a number of operational factors that need to be taken into consideration.”
