Sleaford Town councillors are to consider whether to set aside a specified area where dogs can be allowed off the lead on a town park.

Coun Jan Brealeycook asked for the idea to be tabled for discussion by members at Wednesday night’s town council meeting to possibly securely fence off an area to allow dogs to run free and ensure safety in the Boston Road Recreation Ground.

She told The Standard: “The idea has been voiced by a few people and it’s something I’ve thought about personally for a while. There have been a couple of very minor instances of dogs running around and kiddies being a little frightened, and in view of the major incidents in other parts of the country I thought it was something we should look into.

“I know of two (incidents) where dogs running came close to a fight and there were children around, luckily they were soon contained. My personal opinion is in public places dogs should be on a lead if other dogs are around.”
