Rasen councillor calls for action over fallen tree

A Market Rasen councillor has described as ‘disappointing’ the lack of action over a tree which has been blocking a footpath for over a month.

The tree, on the footpath running beside Willingham Woods and the A631, came down in the storms at the end of August / beginning of September.

It fell onto the road initially, but was cleared to the footpath, where it has remained.

Stephen Bunney, a town and district councillor for Market Rasen said: “I am disappointed the tree has not been cleared away.

“We are supposed to be promoting walking and cycling, but this is blocking the way for anyone wanting to head out that way.

“This road is very busy - vehicles often travel along it at unacceptable speeds.

“The fallen tree forces path users into danger.

“ This section of road is not lit at night.

“Something needs to be done.

“The fallen tree has to be seen as a major health and safety risk.”

Coun Bunney says he has reported the tree on Fix My Street, which is Lincolnshire County Council’s
platform for reporting items of concern, such as highway issues, street lighting etc.

Coun Bunney continued: “It is about time something was done to rectify this [fallen tree].”

After Coun Bunney reported the tree on Fix My Street, an automated response was
received to say an investigation would be made and an update given within 14 days.
