Residents have reported Washdyke Lane in Osgodby has been constantly flooded since the beginning of December because of a blocked drain.

Despite having been reported to authorities on a number of occasions, water still covers the width of the road.

Steve Slawson is one of those affected and contacted the Rasen Mail earlier this week.

He said: “Myself and multiple neighbours have reported this to the highways agency and the council many times.

“They told me it was a priority job but that was two weeks ago and nothing is happening.

“They have left us like this all over Christmas and New Year.

“It’s damaging vehicles and causing issues for shopping deliveries etc.

“With all this extra rain [at the moment] there is now a real risk to property.”

Mr Slawson also had concerns about the long-lasting effect the standing water would have.

He added: “The road surface underneath has been severally damaged, which I doubt they will sort out after the water is cleared.

“Sir Edward Leigh MP has also been informed and has responded, but still nothing has been done so we are now turning to the Rasen Mail to highlight the issue.”

It isn’t just Osgodby residents who have been concerned with flooding over recent weeks.

As torrents of rain fell last week, there was a lot of standing water on the roads, including Oxford Street in Market Rasen.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council told the Rasen Mail: “We are looking into the flooding issues on Washdyke Lane and will do what we can to resolve them.

“We are currently dealing with a lot of reports of flooding on roads across the county so please bear with us as it may take longer than usual to resolve all flooding issues.

“Where there is an immediate risk of water entering homes, these will be our priority.

“Recent extremely wet weather has saturated the ground and water-levels in streams and rivers are very high.

“Even if road drains aren’t blocked, there is nowhere for the water to go and it’ll take longer than usual to drain away.”
