Epworth hosts first Community Day

A first Community Event in North Lincolnshire has been organised in Epworth on Saturday, April 12.

The day runs from 11am to 3pm at Epworth Leisure Centre for residents of Epworth and surrounding areas to learn more about their community and what it has to offer.

North Lincolnshire Council and its Safer Neighbourhoods team have organised the event in partnership with Humberside Police.

It will give local people the opportunity to meet with the council, local agencies and partners to discuss and learn more about available schemes and initiatives in the Epworth area.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Yorkshire and the Humber, Matthew Grove will be attending along with local councillor, Coun David Robinson. It is a great chance to ask them any questions.

You will be able to find out what’s happening at Epworth Leisure Centre and see its latest refurbishments.

The council’s Safer Neighbourhoods team will discuss and provide information on Immobilise (the online property database system), dealing with anti-social behaviour, advice on substance misuse, advice on domestic abuse/health relationships and Neighbourhood Watch.

Meet your Neighbourhood Police team, find out about becoming a Special Constable, get advice on reducing the likelihood of being a target of crime, find out what Street Sport activities are on and sign up for Country Watch.

North Lincolnshire Homes will be showcasing plans for Ashtree Close and providing information on initiatives of the moment.

You can also take a look at the plans for Epworth Skate Park and CCTV coverage.

The council’s Outreach Youth Service will tell people about positive work they have been doing with young people in the area. They ensure that young people are heard and work towards reducing anti-social behaviour by providing opportunities.

The council’s housing Sstandards team will be there to offer advice on grants and financial assistance available for energy efficiency measures and essential repairs.

There will be freebies given out throughout the day from Humberside Police, Safer Neighbourhoods and Ongo. They include hats, bike security kits, frisbees and shed alarms.

And you can have your health checked for free. If you’re aged between 40 and 74 and haven’t already been diagnosed with vascular disease or treated for certain risk factors such as high blood pressure or cholesterol you can have a general health check, just turn up on the day.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are expected to attend to talk about recruiting retained fire fighters, home fire safety advice and discussing what they do in the community.

Coun Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for customer services, sport and leisure, said: “This is the first Community Event we are holding in North Lincolnshire and I’m sure it is going to be a fantastic event. With lots of different agencies joining together to provide advice and assistance it is a great opportunity for people living in Epworth to find out more about what is on offer in their community. Everyone is welcome to go along to learn more about what is going on in Epworth and ask any questions.”

Sharon Haigh, Housing Officer at North Lincolnshire Homes part of Ongo, said: “This event is a great opportunity for the residents of Epworth to see what Ongo has to offer, as well as a chance for our current tenants to see me, their Housing Officer. I would encourage as many residents to come along as possible to take advantage of so many local agencies all in one place.”
