Established estate agents will re-open

MONDAY 5th March marks the Retford re-opening of long-established regional estate agents Drewery and Wheeldon when the company will begin its first day’s trading at its new Bridgegate Centre office.

And just two days after the re-opening all of Drewery and Wheeldon’s exiting or prospective vendors, tenants and landloards are invited to No.2 Bridgegate Centre from 4-6pm on 7th March to enjoy a drink, meet the team and check out the new facility.

The company has also announced that every sale they make during the year will prompt a £50 donation to Bassetlaw Hospice.

Managing director David Jackson said they were honoured to sponsor a worthy cause in 2012.

“This is our sponsored charity for 2012 and representatives from the hospice will be at the reception, so the occasion will be a good opportunity for people to learn more about their work and offer support,” he said.

“As local agents we feel that giving something back to the community is vital and although we would like to support more charities, selecting one per year allows us to focus our efforts more effectively.”

Bassetlaw Hospice administrator Ian Hall said they were delighted Drewery and Wheeldon had decided to support the hospice.

“We support the local community and fund-raise from the local community, so to have a business such as Drewery and Wheeldon support us in this way is fantastic,” he said.

“They’ve got a very good reputation in the area and hopefully we will both benefit from it.”

But Drewery and Wheeldon will also be ‘giving something back’ by initiating sponsorship for North Wheatley with Leverton Cricket Club.

Said Mr Jackson: “Sport works to bring the community together and if we can help in our own small way we will.”

Cricket club player and committee member Jamie Bovill, who is also Drewery and Wheeldon’s Residential Sales Manager for Retford and Bawtry offices, said: “This is the first season we’ve had this sponsorship and it’s a very useful boost to the club. It will help us with our running costs and maintenance of the ground and equipment.”

The Retford office re-opening coincides with an intensely busy period for the re-invigorated and expanding estate agency and auctioneers.

Said Mr Jackson: “We have property auctions in Doncaster on 5th March and Gainsborough on 6th March, then the Retford open night on 7th March on top of all the normal activity, but we thrive on being busy.”

“We would like to thank all our clients, tenants and landlords for their forbearance during the relocation period and assure them that we are here to stay.

He added: “We have increased our geographic coverage and we have also created some very flexible all-inclusive sale fee plans, with no fixed period and no withdrawal fees.”

“We want to provide the best service at a sensible price with no hidden extras. Whether a property is worth £25,000 or £1.5m, we have the expertise to market it and get the best return for our client.”

Mr Jackson said the company’s acutions are run on traditional lines, with the fee to the clinet being an agreed percentgae of the hammer price.

“The ‘modern’ method where it’s claimed that ‘your property will be sold at no cost to you’ loads on a five per cent buyer’s premium, so naturally the buyer pays the vendor five per cent less than the valuation of the property,” he said.

“On a £100,000 house the client would be £3,000 worse off! That is not the sort of thing we would promote.”

He added: “We also provide the buyer with a full legal pack, so there are no last-minute surprises, and when the hammer goes down the buyer knows they have bought and the seller knows they have a sale.”

“In a ‘modern’ auction, there is no legal pack and the fall of the hammer does not create a binding sale, so there can be nasty surprises when the searches are done, the purchaser walks away and the seller is left with expenses and an unsold property.”

“We will be keeping the public informed on how we ensure this never happens in our slightly old-fashioned but truly fair auctions.”

“Our methods ensure a transparent sale with no extras, and we can provide follow-up property management for investors.
