Events to celebrate Retford Armed Forces Day

The Retford Armed Forces Day (AFD) committee and Retford and District Scouts and Guides leaders are pleased to announce that the event to be held in Kings Park on Saturday, June 18, to celebrate Armed Forces Week 2016, will now include the Retford and District Guide and Scout Jamboree.

Glenn White, Chair of the Armed Forces Day Committee, said: “As both groups wished to use the park on the same day, it made perfect sense to combine the two events into an even more spectacular day.

“We are well on the way to building an amazing day out for the whole family, involving youth groups and armed forces from across the whole area.”

Then later that evening The Armed Forces Day celebration black Tie Dinner will be held from 7pm and will see the Town Hall Ballroom, in The Square, Retford, decked out with standards from local regiments, the Royal British Legion and local cadet forces.

Guests will enjoy a three course meal courtesy of Retford’s very own Deli and Dine and they will be served by cadets and their officers.

The entertainment on the night will be courtesy of the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers, while a local blues band also having signed to play during the meal.

A grand draw in aid of armed forces charities will take place with special prizes contributed by individuals and businesses from across the district.

More donations of prizes are welcomed.
