Fairy tale start to festive season in Skegness

The festive season will start at the weekend with a ‘Once Upon a Christmas in Spilsby’ celebration.

The event is a joint venture between Spilsby Town Council, Spilsby Rotary Club and the Spilsby Business Partnership.

On Saturday, the Rotary Club is holding their Cracker Day from 10am to 2pm in the Franklin Hall.

Then at 2pm there is carol singing around the Franklin Statue.

The popular outdoor Christmas Market is scheduled to start at 2pm and run until 6pm, with the lights being switched on at 5.30pm.

County Linx Radio will be bringing their Radio Bus and stage and there will be a special performance by the students from Linkage.

Mayor of Spilsby Coun Mark Gale says residents should expect the best Cracker Day yet.

He said: “W’ve spent a lot of money this year on the lights because the old ones were not fit for purpose. People expect to see a good switch-on, so we bit the bullet and it will be an investment for the next seven years.

“Coun Andrew Wright and his wife have done a tremendous amount of work towards sorting the lights and I’m really grateful to them and all who are helping.

”We’ve also got music and the Rotary Club says there are lots of market stalls, so I think it’s going to be a great day.”

Visitors are reminded the High Street in Spilsby will be closed from 12pm to 8pm for the event. On street parking is not permitted on High Street during the event. Lincolnshire County Council have advised that buses will be diverted down Boston Road for the duration of the event.

The Market Place and Buttercross Car Parks will be closed from midnight on December 1 until the event is finished. Parking will still be available in the Boston Road, Post Office Lane and Robin Hood (Reynard Street access only) car parks.
