Family fun at Firewood Festival this weekend

GET fired up and ready for a family day out with a difference this weekend at Idle Valley Nature Reserve in Retford.

The annual Firewood Festival takes place on Sunday 30th September from 11am - 3pm.

It’s a rare opportunity to meet the stunning heavy shire horses that work on the woods at Notts Wildlife Trust nature reserves.

You can also meet the woodsmen with skills and crafts that keep the log-burning stoves in the county fuelled up.

From felling to fuel, the Firewood Festival has lots of demonstrations such as log splitting, hand splitting, horse logging, pole lathing, Swedish logs, bentwood chair making and chainsaw carving.

And there will also be charcoal and firewood for sale from the Trusts’s own reserves and wood burners and stoves in action demonstrated by Harworth Heating.

“Even if it’s a chilly day, there will be plenty of opportunities to keep warm,” said organiser Di Fisher.

Idle Valley Nature Reserve can be found on North Road, Retford, DN22 8SG.
