The Standard and social media have received complaints about the behaviour of Coun Mark Suffield who was seen to be in some distress during the service.

In a message issued from his wife, Laura Suffield, she says: “Profound and sincere apologies are offered regarding the behaviour of Mark Suffield at the Remembrance Day Service in Sleaford yesterday.

“Mark would never knowingly do anything to disrespect our Armed Forces. His late father was in the RAF for over 30 years. Mark’s out of character behaviour was due to a serious health issue and his family and friends are supporting him at this difficult time.

“Thank you to everyone who has shown compassion and understanding. Once again please accept our heartfelt apologies.”

Sleaford Town councillor Jan Brealeycook has been liaising with the family. She said: “I would like the public to try and understand what happened was not intentional disrespect.”

It is understood a statement will be made over Coun Suffield standing in the by-election at a later date.
