Family left ‘devastated’ by death

The family of a Dinnington father-of-three who died in an incident in a Maltby pub on Sunday have a been left ‘devastated’ by his death.

Robert David Hurdley died in an incident in the Don John Hotel pub at around 10pm.

The 45-year-old was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital after suffering a serious head injury but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In a statement his family said: “Our family have been devastated by the loss of Robert.”

“He was a popular, lively and successful family man and the father of three beautiful young children.”

“He had spent the day coaching the Dinnington Boys Rugby Team and shared that evening having a drink with friends.”

“He is deeply loved by us all. I would ask that anyone with information please contact the police.”

A 30-year-old Maltby man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Don John or nearby pubs on Sunday evening, or anyone with information to call South Yorkshire Police on 101, or if you are deaf or hard of hearing on 18001 101 (text phone) or 07786 220 022 (SMS) quoting incident number 1242 of 14 October, 2012.
