Fashion through the ages talk at Ladies Luncheon Club meeting

Speaker Tracey Martin, a well-respected antiques, collectables and fashion expert had travelled from Essex to entertain the ladies.

She is a regular on TV shows including This Morning and Flog It and has a regular spot on the Fiona Phillips Sunday morning show on BBC Radio London.

“Her bubbly personality and enthusiasm were infectious as she talked about fashion from the 1920s to present day,” said Alwyn Hill.

Tracey started her talk on with the liberating 1920s and the introduction of calf-length dresses and vibrant colours.

She described to 1930s at the Hollywood era, while the 1940s brought utility wear.

The 1950s were a big fashion turning point with big dresses, pencil skirts before the mini-skirt made its appearance in the 1960s.

She also took the ladies through the trouser suits and the 1970s, the shoulder pads of the 1980s and the fitness wear and trainers in the 1990s.

For the 21st Century Tracey concluded that ‘anything goes’ - including anything that has gone before.

“Tracey went through every decade in detail and had photographs to illustrate the different fashions,” added Mrs Hill

“And her passion for high heels was noticeable as she sported a pair of six inch Vivienne Westwood designer shoes.”
