Fire wrecks classroom at village school

A classroom at a village primary school has been badly damaged by fire just days after closing for the summer holidays.

Three fire crews from Sleaford and Lincoln were called to Coleby Church of England Primary School on Rectory Lane in the village after 4pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday) and residents were advised to keep all windows and doors closed due to smoke and fumes.

A classroom and its contents were severely damaged by the fire, along with overhead cabling, a wooden shed and contents including two gas cylinders and a wheelie bin. It is believed to have started from hot ashes from a bonfire being put in a wheelie bin which burned through.
