Firm expansion creates 250 jobs

A FIRM will create 250 new jobs in the area after taking on the former Tarmac site at Chainbridge Road Quarry in Lound.

Bassetlaw Council held off challenges from ‘a number of other strong sites’ across the country, attracting Charcon Construction Solutions to the area.

Portfolio holder for community prosperity Coun David Pressley said the council was extremely pleased to have secured the deal with Charcon.

“We are delighted to attract a company of this size to Bassetlaw and see off competition from other sites around the UK,” he said.

“The creation of up to 250 jobs over the next two years is a fantastic boost to the local economy.”

Leader Coun Simon Greaves also welcomed the move and said the deal with international company would really put the area on the map.

“A global company like Charcon wants to come to the district and create 250 much-needed jobs. It shows me there is no barrier to investment in Bassetlaw,” he said.

“We will continue to work hard to attract more businesses to the area.”

Charcon has already created 40 new jobs for people living within 11 miles of the site. It will invest a further £1.75m and look to re-open the two closed factories on site.
