Look out for the big bus that will be outside Primark on Saturday 16 and 23 May where you can find out what’s in store at your local market, sample some of the produce and receive money-off vouchers to spend at the market.
There will be a a series of free workshops, the next is at Ashby Market on Thursday May 7 and is a ‘Sewing Bee’ session run by Margaret Rushton from Willow Craft stall, with a further workshop on Thursday 21 May. On Thursday May 14, there’ll be an Up-cycling workshop for the garden (turn teapots into planters!) run by Julie Hood from stall 11. All sessions run from 10am to 3pm. You can just turn up on the day.
The markets offer a fantastic range of goods including traditional and continental meats, flowers, arts and crafts, cakes, jams, pies, cheeses, sweets, pet food, cards, jewellery, books, CDs, clothes, and much more.

Opening times: Scunthorpe market – Friday and Saturdays; the food hall is open six days a week Monday to Saturday. Ashby market – Thursdays. Brigg market – Thursdays with a smaller market Saturdays, plus the Farmers Market held every fourth Saturday of the month. All open 9am to 5pm. With free parking close to the markets, there’s every reason to shop at your local market.
There’s a new auction business recently opened at Scunthorpe Market selling a range of antiques, collectables and vintage goods plus a small range of household items. The owner Anne Potter and husband Paul Potter also run a stall at the market selling cards and have been there for 32 years.
Anne Potter, said: “We need to encourage more people to set up business in the market. It is a great atmosphere, everyone knows one another and it is provides a stress-free way of shopping you don’t seem to get at the supermarket. We love it here – you meet so many wonderful people. We are really looking forward to working on our second business venture in the market. It’s very cheap to rent a stall and the two weeks for £10 offer is an excellent initiative that will hopefully see more people wanting to set up a stall in the market.”
John Fullerton, Markets Operation Manager at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “You’ve heard of your local supermarket; well you are about to experience a different kind of super market, full of quality fresh and tasty produce – some of it locally sourced.
