Flood warning as heavy rain forecast

The Environment Agency is asking people to remain vigilant ahead of heavy rain forecast for South Yorkshire on Friday and Saturday.

A slow moving band of heavy rain is expected to cause more flood warnings to be issued on Friday and Saturday because the ground is still saturated from the rain the region has already experienced.

The Environment Agency is warning that there could be a risk of some surface water flooding and river flooding.

David Dangerfield, regional director for the Yorkshire and North East region of the Environment Agency said: “Yorkshire and the North East has experienced some severe weather in recent weeks, and with further rain forecast for the next few days, we would urge the public to remain vigilant, check local weather forecasts, and the Environment Agency website for information.”

“Our thoughts are with those people whose homes and businesses have already been affected by flooding. Our staff have been out working hard to provide communities with as much assistance and information as possible.”

The Environment Agency will issue flood alerts and flood warnings. Information can be found on www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood.
