Now organisers behind this year’s Arts and Music Festival in the church are laying down another challenge - for the longest piece of bunting ever seen in the town.

This year, the theme for the week-long festival is One World, Several Rooms, in which St Mary’s will showcase the rich diversity of the world through music and art.

“To decorate the area around the church, the plan is to create the longest piece of bunting ever seen in the town and we need people to help us do it,” said festival organiser, Lynn Urbanowicz.

“We want this bunting to feature flags from around the world and would love as many people in the town as possible to take part in its creation.

“The bunting will be put together towards the end of April, with the aim of spreading it around the church grounds ready for the festival week.”

The festival will be held from May 13 to May 20.

Lynn added: “This is indeed going to be a really colourful community project, but we need lots of people to make it happen.

“You do not have to be an experienced needleworker or artist to take part, all you need do is collect a piece of bunting from one of the local shops and outlets taking part in the project, colour it or decorate it to replicate a flag from around the world and return it to the outlet by the end of April.”

Look out for posters in participating shops.
