Swineshead Institute Football Club team members had their heads shaved on Saturday for Cancer Research UK.

Robbie Masters came up with the idea, and posted it on Facebook to see who would be interested.

Players and members of the club joined Robbie and agreed to have their heads shaved before their cup match against Pointon on Saturday.

The head shave began at 10am in the Swineshead Institute clubhouse.

Robbie said: “Some were very nervous about getting their heads shaved.”

The shave was just part of the fundraising, with raffles, cake sales, a Just Giving page and a talk from former Arsenal and Wales international John Hartson helping to raise the £4,000 total.

Danielle Glavin, Cancer Research UK spokesman for Lincolnshire, said: “We can’t thank Swineshead Institute Football Club enough for their efforts at the mass headshave.”

“Its thanks to our supporters that Cancer Research UK is able to fund some of the best and most promising research that will help more people survive.”

Robbie gave thanks to everybody involved. He said: “It has bought the whole village together.”

Robbie would like to mention those who donated raffle prizes and supported the team during their head shave.

“A special thanks must be given to club members and players who took part,” he added.

The club’s Just Giving page is still open and donations have meant the target of £1,500 has been surpassed, wit the total now standing at more than £1,650.
