Football match and auction in Greg's memory

Greg Mustill died at the age of 33 on December 27 – 14 years after he was diagnosed with a heart condition and underwent a heart transplant at Papworth Hospital.

Now, brother Danny Mustill and family and friends are organising a charity football match and auction in an attempt to raise money for the hospital to thank them.

Danny said: “Greg was a family man, he loved his kids, his family and his friends.

“If he could help you out he always would – he was an all-round nice guy.”

The event will take place on Sunday, May 15, kicking off at 11.30am at Boston United, on York Street. Donations for auction include a signed Frank Bruno boxing glove, a pair of John Terry’s football boots and boxer shorts signed by model David Gandy.

It is also hoped that people will be inspired to sign up to the donor list themselves.

Danny added: “It’s the gift of life to another but it’s not something you think about until you maybe need it and you never know one day you could need to have a transplant.”

Another friend of Greg’s, 30-year-old Lee Winter, the manager at Buildbase Boston, is also undertaking a 
charity challenge.

He, along with Terry Marshall will be walking from Grimsby Buildbase, back to Boston, via Louth and Horncastle on April 29 – a total of 50 miles.

Lee said: “Greg was a fantastic lad, always helpful and there for you if you needed him. He never seemed to have a bad day as far as I was concerned. He was a cheerful, happy-go-lucky sort of guy.”

He said he had wanted to support the family’s efforts to raise money, adding: “I would like to see as many people as possible get behind the organ donation scheme.”
