Former Isle broadcaster named top sports presenter

A former Belton man has again won a prestigious award for exceptional televised sports coverage.

Richard Lenton, who reported previously for the Epworth Bells, has been crowned Best Sports Presenter at the Asian Television Awards for the second time in

three years.

Working for SingTel TV and Eleven Sports Network in Singapore, Richard saw off strong competition from a wide region to lift the trophy.

The former South Axholme School pupil said: “I’m really fortunate to have anchored some fantastic live events, including the football World Cup, FA Cup and South-East Asia Games. To win this award for the second time is amazing.”

Richard presents live Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League coverage on MioStadium TV in Singapore, writes for tabloid The New Paper, and is editor of men’s lifestyle magazine EX. He is the former editor of Football Punk magazine and oversees Cut Throat Media agency.

As a youngster, Richard was on the books at Doncaster Rovers for 18 months then for a short time with Scunthorpe United’s youth team. After moving on to sports reporting, a chance meeting during a stay in Africa where he was coaching in an orphanage in Togo, led to him moving in to the broadcasting world.

He has interviewed a variety of stars from the worlds of sport and entertainment including such names as Lennox Lewis, Rio Ferdinand, Liam Gallagher, Usain Bolt, Kevin Pietersen, Carlo Ancelotti, David Haye, Phil Taylor, Andrew Flintoff and Nick Faldo during his career.
