Mrs Grant was the Mayor in 1991 and served as a town councillor between 1984 and 1996. She had served as a Liberal Democrat councillor, representing the residents of St Margaret’s Ward.

Mrs Grant lived in Edinburgh before moving to Louth when her husband, Archie, was employed by Conoco. The couple returned to live in Edinburgh in 1996.

Former town councillor Gus Robertson kept in touch with the Grants after they returned to Scotland. He paid tribute to the “pleasant, hard-working and genuine” Mrs Grant after being informed of her death on Monday.

Current town councillor Margaret Ottaway also paid tribute to Mrs Grant, saying that she was a “very committed and supportive” member of Louth Town Council.
