Kristofer James Egerton, formerly of Keaton Close, Skegness but now living in a YMCA in Derby, admitted assaulting Sally Egerton by beating when he appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, said the couple had been together for a year and Mrs Egerton was eight weeks pregnant. She was working and paying all the bills as Egerton was not working.

Mr Clare said that when she came from work at a little after 4pm on June 5, the couple got into an argument because she had moved a laptop.

Mr Clare said that Mrs Egerton told him that if he wasn’t happy, he “could leave at any time”.

He said that Egerton then picked up the laptop and when she said he couldn’t take it, he pushed her onto the sofa with his hands around her neck and also threw a phone across the room and it hit a television, damaging it.

Mr Clare said, however, that Mrs Egerton did not want a restraining order against her husband as she hoped for the marriage to resume.

Terry Boston, mitigating, said Egerton now realised the marriage, which he said had been when he was “on the rebound”, had been a mistake and was now “completely over”.

Mr Boston said Egerton, who he said had a fractured wrist at the time, admitted holding his wife and moving her to one side, but denied her allegations.

Following a report from the Probation Service, Egerton was ordered to pay a total of £170 in costs and charges.
