Four fire crews and a coastguard team needed to rescue stranded cow

A specialist rescue crew from Sleaford fire station were among the teams called to assist freeing a cow stuck in a ditch.

The fire crew from Sleaford was joined by more specialist teams from Spalding and Grantham at the scene on land off Marsh Road, Gedney Drive End yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

They were also supported by a fire crew from Holbeach having been called out by the coastguard team from Sutton Bridge to the cow in need of assistance.

According to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service the crews used special animal strops to hoist up the stranded cow, who to their "udder delight" was uninjured.

The team of five HM Coastguard officers helped the crews get off the marsh land again by unlocking various gates.
