Fran, who works at Boston Borough Council, has played an integral role in developing the healthy walking groups from their early beginnings a decade ago, personally leading many of the sessions.

There are now 12 walking groups with their own leaders and the project is an autonomous community initiative.

Fran was delighted to receive a bouquet from walk leaders to thank her for her efforts.

She said: “It has been my baby and it has been great to see the groups grow and develop and walkers step forward to become leaders.

“Walking is good for you. It is the easiest form of exercise and something we do from the earliest age. It’s also good for the soul – gets you out in the fresh air and, when it
puts in an appearance, the sunshine.

“That’s why I will continue, in my own time, to chair Boston Community Health Walking Programme and on occasion join the groups for a healthy walk.”

Fran, the council’s play and physical activity officer, is now busy planning activities for the Easter break and for the summer - for more details visit http://bit.ly/2nr61K6.

She has organised a return of the popular beach days at Central Park on Thursday and Friday, August 3 and 4, when there will be all the usual attractions and free fun for all the family. And this year the beach will remain in Central Park for children to enjoy throughout the rest of

August.

For a donation of £1.50 a week you can enjoy as many of the 12 walks as you like.

Refreshments are provided and the walks are one to three miles for those at all levels of fitness. They are wheelchair and pushchair friendly.

Social events and specials walks are held throughout the year.

Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
