To qualify you must live in North Lincolnshire, be aged between 40 and 74 and not already being treated for pre-existing medical conditions (including heart problems, high blood pressure/cholesterol, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes).

The health check is carried out by a nurse who will measure your blood pressure, pulse, weight and height, cholesterol, waist measurement and body mass index (BMI). They will also ask you a series of lifestyle questions about your activity levels and diet. You are then given a score for your risk of developing heart disease over the next 10 years and offered advice and support for preventing this and conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

The tests are carried out on the day and you get your results there and then with an explanation as to what they mean. The health checks nurse can refer people to other services including the health trainers and GPs.

The sessions are held in convenient community locations and are held on a drop-in basis but appointments are also available. Sessions take place on Friday August 14 at Epworth Clinic in Chapel Street, 10am-4pm; and on Tuesday August 25 at Ealand Victory Hall, 10am-4pm.
