French driver injured in Markham Moor crash

A French 37–year-old male lorry driver was suffering from serious leg injuries, after his vehicle collided with the rear of a bus.

Fire crews extricated the driver who was treated at the scene by DLRAA.

An air ambulance spokesman said: “Despite a distinct language barrier, the crew were able to reassure the patient, and treat his injuries on the scene. “

“After receiving pain relief, the crew immobilised the patient’s neck, back and pelvis to avoid any further injury.”

She added: “Despite having no doctor on duty, the DLRAA Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) paramedics were able to consult with the DLRAA on-call doctor over the phone, who authorised further pain relief due to the patient’s traumatic injuries.”

The driver was then airlifted to the major trauma unit at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.
