Fun in the sun for Louth's young gardeners

Louth's youngest gardeners have got off to a great start this spring, preparing exciting new additions to the Kids' Patch garden at Charles Street Pavilion.

Firstly, there are the intriguing new living willow structures – a tunnel and dome planted right into the ground for the children to use all year round, regardless of the weather.

There was also a great hive of activity surrounding the new planters, which needed to be filled with compost donated by Greenaway Green Waste Services in Strubby. The planters are extra tall in order to allow children or adults who use wheelchairs to enjoy the gardening activities too.

Children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers, came to help set up the new structures. The hard workers included Karl Porter (11) and Shona Askwith (12) from Monks’ Dyke, and Liam Askwith (12) from Cordeaux. Shona and Liam both commented on how much fun it had been, while Karl added: “It’s been nice working in the community.”

Home-Start Lincolnshire, which runs Kids’ Patch in the area, would like to welcome all children, parents and carers to come along to one of its sessions, run by Amy Skellern on Tuesdays between 10am and noon.
