As reported two weeks ago, Sleaford Navigation Trust is in the early stages of planning to run a 12-seater boat between Eastgate Green and Cogglesford Mill as an added visitor attraction. It has already attracted interest from the town and district councils

Steve Hayes of the Trust said they are looking at using LEADER funding, supplied by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) for improving the rural economy and services in rural areas, such as increasing tourism.

Mr Hayes said: “This may require match funding from the Trust which has already been promised from a variety of sources, including the Inland Waterways Association. Money will be needed initially for a trip boat and a landing stage at Cogglesford, however, the total amount will depend on the amount of desilting (of the river bed) needed.”

He went on: “We would anticipate the landing stage at Cogglesford being on the lock island as we already have ownership of the land there, however, that will need discussion with the planning authority.”

The boat may not be completed until 2017.
