Funding needed to help student achieve dream

Kayleigh Hanlon, 20, studies bioveterinary science at the University of Lincoln. When she is not at university, Kayleigh lives with her parents in Helpringham, near Sleaford.

Becoming a vet has always been an aspiration of Kayleigh’s.

After not getting a place to study veterinary medicine following her A-levels, Kayleigh chose bioveterinary science.

She has now received an offer from the University of Surrey to study veterinary medicine, starting in September.

Kayleigh said: “Getting a place at vet school is exceptionally hard and I was very emotional when I received the offer before Christmas.”

For the next stage of Kayleigh’s university degree, there is no Government funding available.

Kayleigh said: “For a five-year veterinary degree, this equates to more than £45,000. Obviously, many students are not in the position to pay this money up front.”

Kayleigh started looking for possible routes to fund her degree.

This is when she found The Digglers Charitable Trust, which helps second-degree medicine students fund their studies.

Kayleigh said: “The Diggler’s Trust is a fantastic way for students to pay for the fees.”

Money from sponsors will be sent to the charity, who will then forward funds to the student.

Kayleigh writes a blog about all her work experience placements and uploaded a post about how to sponsor her through The Digglers.
