Fundraiser for three volcano challenge

Retford resident Sarah Cox opened one of the village’s historic houses, Ordsall Lodge on London Road, for a garden sale and fete to raise funds for her forthcoming trial in support of Headway.

Starting on October the 6th, Sarah will walk Mount Etna, Vulcano, and Stromboli, in just three days.

But she was only half way to her target amount of £1,500 which she needs to be able to complete the challenge.

Sarah, a self-employed chartered Physiotherapist, said: “I am motivated to do it because of one of my patients, a 22-year-old with a severe head injury and leg amputation following a car crash when he was just 17.”

“His family and carers have relied heavily on Headway for advice and education.”

“They are one of the smaller charities which work nationally to raise awareness of head injuries and life afterwards. I feel in this economic climate it’s the small charities that need all the help they can get as they are struggling even more than the well-known ones.”

Items featured in the garden sale included children’s clothes books and games, adult clothes, handbags and shoes including Jasper Conran and Kurt Geiger, a range of kitchen necessities and garden furniture amongst others donated by the family and their friends.

Headway - the brain injury association - is the UKs leading charity working to improve life after brain injury.

They provide support and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields. Headway campaigns nationally for the introduction of measures to reduce instances of brain injury.
