Members of Lincolnshire Co-op have raised £45,135 for 84 good causes in the last three months, just by doing their shopping.

The Community Champions scheme sees every one of the society’s 230,000 members linked to a good cause close to where they live. Every time a member shops using their dividend card in any Lincolnshire Co-op outlet where points are issued – a donation from the Community Champions pot goes towards their local good cause. The groups change every three months so lots of organisations can benefit.

Included in those that have benefitted are Crowle Primary Academy which was awarded £193 to buy toys, games and sports equipment for playtimes to ensure children are active and developing social skills.

A further £193 was given to Norbert’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy in Crowle to create a more inspiring outdoor environment, complete with brightly coloured playground markings.

Haxey Memorial Hall received £417 which will go towards redecorating and updating and upgrading much of the hall’s electrical wiring and lighting.

A Co-op spokesman said: “Once again our members have helped us raise a fantastic total which will enable many groups in their local areas to complete exciting projects.”
