Gainsborough: A new 14 bungalow housing development could be built in Gainsborough

Councillor’s delegated approval to officers subject to the resolution of discussions with Lincolnshire County Council’s highways department regarding the pedestrian crossing on the same road.

The bungalows will provide a good mix of quality housing and will have two bedrooms and parking spaces available.

Leader of West Lindsey District Council, Coun Jeff Summers, said: “This is the first of a number of projects we intend to carry out across West Lindsey in the coming years.”

“Our strategy is to utilise our assets and capital fund to generate income and increase our capital holding.”

“Whilst doing this I intend to bring about physical, financial and social benefits across the district.”

“This particular site was identified as a development site some years ago and more recently a housing needs survey concluded there was a need for smaller accommodation for people to downsize their properties.”

“By allowing people to downsize their properties it frees up larger houses for growing families.”

“Whilst establishing 14 bungalows on this piece of land we have recognised the need for retaining some green open space.”

“That has been achieved very tastefully along with the footpath which will run alongside a new service road for the development.”

“This is the first of a number of development sites West Lindsey will be working on as part of the councils’ new commercial strategy.”

Before considering the development, the council carried out a thorough review of its assets. It identified those which have the potential to support the growth of Gainsborough and provide a wider choice of high quality housing for the town.

Penny Sharp, commercial director for the council, added: “The delivery of a project such as this will support the council in delivering other services.”

“It will directly contribute to increasing income and reducing the councils’ reliance on grant funding from central government.”

“The re-development of any council owned land is always given thorough consideration before moving forward and in this instance the provision of new housing is a key priority for the council.”
