He also listened to the concerns that John Brash & Co. Ltd had about the floodgates opening to substandard foreign imports that don’t meet new UK quality rules.

John Mann took a tour of the facilities in Beckington to see Goldeneye, the only dedicated roofing batten scanning line in Europe, which the company installed earlier this year.

Mr Mann was impressed at the level of investment and applauded the company’s growth ambitions.

He said: “John Brash is a fantastic example of UK manufacturing at its very best, and it’s such a privilege that it’s in my constituency. I’m full of praise for the company’s commitment to growth through investment in ground-breaking technologies that are the envy of the rest of Europe.

“At its heart, John Brash is a local company that employs local people and has grown to become a market leader on the national stage. It has trail-blazed new standards of quality that will benefit the house-building industry.”

As well as seeing the improvements the company has made this year, he also listened to the concerns that the company has about the lacklustre adoption of new quality rules, which is leaving the door open to substandard foreign imports.

Both the chairman and the managing director at John Brash explained how the new British Standard for roofing has not been fully adopted by the timber industry. This means that substandard materials are being used as part of some new house-building schemes and in a range of public-sector projects, such as reroofing schools.

Chairman Christian Brash was pleased that the MP took the company’s concerns seriously and was able to offer insight and suggestions that could help the company and the industry to move forward.

He said: “We had a very productive meeting with John Mann, and we were very encouraged with suggestions that would benefit our company and the industry.”
