Gainsborough: BMW give Queen Elizabeth A-level students a look into the future of motoring with next generation electric cars

The visit provided the ideal opportunity for students to experience how creative electronic systems, new materials and cutting edge design can be used to produce a zero emission luxury transport system.

With sheer performance and stunning looks, the i8 also gave students an ideal way to see how 0 to 62 in 4.4 seconds performance can be designed to produce the same fuel economy as a small compact car.

The success of these vehicles depends upon the use of Innovative materials including carbon fibre and groundbreaking aerodynamic design principles.

This is what students need to investigate as they develop their own innovative ideas as part of their A-level course.

Once on the campus, students were able to fully test what makes them both such an iconic development for the future of electric powered vehicles.

Head of technology Mr Shaw was very pleased to be able to arrange this event for students and was confident of their ability to build on this unique experience as they develop their project work during the rest of the year.
