Gainsborough: The five year plan for the town is now in its final stages

Gainsborough Town Council has held a number of meetings and consultations over the last few months to ensure the plan is a fair representation of what the people of the town want to see in the future.

Chairman of Gainsborough Town Council, Coun Barry Coward, said: “Following two public meetings held in Gainsbough the community led Town Plan from Gainsborough Town Council will now be redrafted for presentation to the April council meeting.”

“The public meetings represented the culmination of six months consultation with the local community. “

“Changes to the plan following consultation will include a map showing buildings and open space the Town Council would like to see protected.”

Coun Coward said during consultations businesses and individuals have expressed the view that the long awaited second Trent Bridge must now be a top priority for the town as it will unlock access to the A1 and South Yorkshire, not only for Gainsborough but to the benefit Market Rasen, Louth and Mablethorpe also served by the A631.

The plan aims to be a vision for the town going forward for the next five years taking us to 2020.

The Plan concisely expresses the hopes of the community in a vision statement.

It sets out the spatial planning requirements that will be needed to shape Gainsborough over the next five years to 2020 and beyond in the hope that these aspects of the plan can be incorporated into the Central Lincolnshire Local Plan.

It details the programme of works that Gainsborough Town Council need to carry out and includes a three year indicative budget for the council as required by the council’s auditors.

The 2020 vision is to have a safe, clean place for residents, their children and grandchildren to live, where people are valued as human beings, and not simply numbers, where individual development and well-being come first.

A welcoming, vibrant, cohesive, and inclusive community with outstanding facilities accessible to all.

An expanding, historic, high quality manufacturing town, built besides the River Trent.

An attractive hub for a hinterland of rural villages andneighbouring towns.

Carefully regulated expansion that does not compromise thetown’s cultural and historic ambience, ensuring a good balanceof homes, commercial and green spaces.
