Gainsborough: Fork went into woman’s leg during argument

Paul Golightly walked into the kitchen of the couple’s home in an aggressive frame of mind still holding his knife and fork following the argument about the back door being closed or open.

Steven Coupland, prosecuting, said “There then took place an attack during which the fork went slightly into the left leg of the complainant.”

“She kicked out and caught him with her foot.”

“At that stage he swung out and caught her cheek leaving a red mark.”

Police were called to the property and Golightly was arrested.

He later told officers he acted in self defence because he was under attack.

The court was told he had 38 previous convictions for a total of 189 offences.

Golightly , 39 , of Portland Terrace, Gainsborough, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm on the evening of 23rd May.

He was jailed for four months meaning he was released immediately because of the time he spent on remand in custody.

Recorder Mark Rhind told him “The circumstances are slightly confused but what is clear is that in the middle of a row you lost your temper.”

“This wasn’t just a slap.”

“It was a more prolonged confrontation.”

“The case is enormously aggravated by your appalling record.”

Christopher Geeson, defending, said Golightly had stopped taking drugs after being remanded in custody awaiting his court appearance.

“He is a lot calmer now,” said Mr Geeson.

“He is at least prepared to make an effort to change.”

“He would submit he has already served his sentence for the offence that he has committed.”
