Gainsborough: Hard work pays off for Master Cadet

This is the first time for a decade that a cadet from 4 Company has achieved this level of recognition.

Kyle Fogarty, 17, who is a Cadet Company Sergeant Major based at Gainsborough Detachment, was called away from Lincolnshire Battalion’s Annual Camp to be assessed at Frimley Park Cadet Training Centre.

This has been a five year journey for Kyle, which has seen him progress through the ACF Star Cadet Awards, starting at one star and progressing to four and now gaining the ultimate recognition of Master Cadet.

Established in 1989, the aim of the Master Cadet Course is to broaden and develop further the leadership responsibilities of four star cadets, with the intention of making better use of their abilities.

It also encourages the retention of senior cadets by giving them something to strive for beyond four star. To qualify for consideration, cadets have to be at least 16 and a half-years-old and be at the minimum rank of Sergeant.

Bill Thompson, public relations officer for Lincolnshire ACF, said: “ The Army Cadets provide, in a positive and structured environment, the opportunity for young people like Kyle, to develop leadership, teamwork, initiative, self-confidence, self-discipline and a keen sense of responsibility.

“We are all delighted that Four Coy, once again, has a Master Cadet in its ranks.”
