Daniel Odling (aka Hurst) of Sandsfield Lane, was found guilty of five offences relating to the depositing of waste. He was prosecuted by West Lindsey District Council for disposing of waste on or around Scouts Hill and for not being a registered carrier of controlled waste in the course of his business.

He appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court last month when he was given a community sentence with a requirement for 120 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

The court also agreed that Mr Odling should be subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order for a two year period with conditions relating to the convicted offences. He was also ordered to pay £500 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee Cllr Sheila Bibb said: “The council is very grateful to the information received from members of the public that enabled us to progress with this prosecution and we would encourage anybody who is aware of activity such as this to report it to us.

“This should also act as a timely reminder to any residents who pay individuals or businesses to remove waste for them that they should check for a waste carriers licence to ensure they do not face being subject to a duty of care offence should the waste not be disposed of in a controlled manner.”

Cllr Trevor Young, ward member for the South West Ward of Gainsborough also welcomed the news.

He said: “The council recognises the detrimental impact that fly- tipping can have and hope that this sends a message to those who commit acts such as this that we will take action to address it.”
