Gainsborough: The Mayor of Gainsborough hopes he can help the town reach its full potential

represent the town and to sell it to its full potential at every opportunity he can.

Coun Matthew Boles, 33, was elected into the role as Mayor of Gainsborough at the annual Gainsborough Town Council meeting in May 2015.

He was also re-elected as a town councillor and was newly elected to West Lindsey District Council to represent Gainsborough North on both councils.

Matthew had been a town councillor for three years prior to the elections in May.

Matthew said: “After the birth of my daughter, without a doubt being elected as Mayor of Gainsborough is my biggest achievement.

“To be the Mayor of your home town is a massive honour and every time I put the chains on for a function or event it just fills me with pride.

“To also have family and friends telling you how proud they are that you have achieved this role is amazing.

“Being elected onto West Lindsey District Council in May was also a massive achievement, it was a hard few months during the election campaign and it took up all of my time and a lot of my families so to achieve the result was another proud moment and well worth all of the hard work.”

Matthew has lived in Gainsborough all his life.

He went to Parish Church Primary school, Castle Hills Secondary School and then went to do his A-Levels at John Leggott in Scunthorpe.

Matthew added: “The rewards of being Mayor is being able to see and witness all the brilliant work that goes on out in the community that is so often unheard of through all the various clubs, organisations, groups and even just wonderful individuals we have in our town.

“I am still now finding new things I never knew existed and the brilliant work they do.

“Every visit I undertake is a huge honour

“Another reward is being able to see decisions you have made making a positive impact on the lifes of residents of on the town itself.

“My ambition as Mayor is do to my best to represent the town and to sell it to its full potential at every opportunity I can.

“As a councillor my ambition is to help make Gainsborough a safe, lively, prosperous, successful, happy and attractive place to live for all of its residents.”

Matthew has always had an interest in local politics and issues.

He said: “As sad as it may sound I used to read all the minutes of council meeting to see what was going on.”

“But at first I wasn’t too sure, although I had an interest I had no idea of the workings of the council or what the commitments would be be.”

“In the beginning it would be fair to say I hadn’t even considered the role of Mayor, as a relatively new councillor and the youngest member I just thought this was for other people.

“However, after being approached by two former mayors who sounded me out to see if I would be interested in becoming deputy mayor and them having the faith and belief in me to be able to do the job I spoke about it with friends and family and I very quickly decided I would be honoured to take on the role.”

Away from work and council business Matthew’s hobbies and interests revolve around doing things with family and friends, especially his 20-month-old daughter Darcie.

Matthew said: “However, anybody that knows me knows one of my biggest passions is football and even more so Gainsborough Trinity FC.

“I try to attend every match I can and support the club at various events and fundraising functions.

“I also sit on the committee of the Supporters Club.”
