The latest figures show across the East Midlands a drop in unemployment and a rise in vacancies.

Sir Edward Leigh said: “The statistics to the end of June 2015 show 1,208 people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, down 48 on the previous month, here in the Gainsborough constituency.

Unemployment is down 20.6 per cent, with 314 more people now in work, than in June last year.

“Whilst nationally the figures have shown a slight increase in the rate of unemployment, between May and June this year, the first since October 2012, I am pleased to say that we are not following the national trend and have continued to get people into jobs, locally.

“This is a fantastic result which proves the Government is helping people to get back to work across the entire country.

“The overwhelming majority of these jobs are full-time, so when combined with lower job taxes, lower income taxes for those starting out, and an increased state pension, we are delivering real opportunities and security for people across the career spectrum. I’m very pleased with these figures and Conservative MPs are working together to make sure this momentum continues.”

Senior Operating Leader of Jobcentre Plus, Becky Newborough, said: “There are now more people in employment.

“And there are plans for the new Co-op and Lidl in town which will bring more jobs soon.

“And more and more employers are getting in contact which is really positive.

“All job centres are reporting a rise of postivity coming out of the brand new employers making contact.”

Employment Minister, Priti Patel, said: “In the East Midlands, the unemployment rate is nearly two percentage points lower than the rate in London at 4.8 per cent.

“As part of our one nation government, we want everyone to succeed and achieve their full potential.

“With the government’s new productivity plan, and introduction of the new living wage, we are ensuring everyone benefits from the economic recovery.”
